Helen FukuharaHelen Fukuhara
Helen Fukuhara is totally and congenitally blind. Being that her father is an abstract painter, who recently became blind himself, Fukuhara learned to conceptualize and talk about two dimensional art. Although naturally suited to work three dimensionally in pottery and soft sculpture, Fukuhara was introduced to print making after taking a course in art history at the Braille Institute of Los Angeles. Fukuhara’s experience of creation is limited to touch, but her tactile impressions are transferred onto a flat picture plane in collaboration with an assistant who helps with the selection of colors. She has had a solo exhibition, but aspires to exhibit with artists who are not disabled and with her father. Fukuhara works for Christian Services for the Blind.
