"A picture is worth a thousand words". I could look endlessly at a portrait of a person. Each face is a landscape of a personality, each pair of eyes a window to the soul. I started my photography career as a fashion photographer in the mid-eighties. In the early nineties I became ill and was diagnosed with Full-Blown Aids and later became legally blind due to an AIDS related condition, CMV Retinitis. In the late nineties I realized I could still photograph with the use of visual assist devices. I than began fulfilling my life long passion of producing photographic art. My portraits maintain elements of a fashion sensibility, yet the subject matter is more narrative and in some images contains elements of the spiritual or mystical. My struggle with AIDS and legal blindness has brought me a greater appreciation and understanding of our purpose in this world and helped me to experience the little miracles which occur on a daily basis. All of us encapsulate the life force (the light) of the Creator. We reflect different aspects of this pure light. It is my desire to capture a little of the light within. I want the viewer to feel the fascination and appreciation I hold for this inner light, the light which reflects out from all human beings. It is my hope that the viewer will experience a similar appreciation and be just as inspired by looking at a portrait of a human face as by looking at a landscape of the Grand Canyon or Yosemite.
